SEHD Launches Sundarbans ATLAS
SEHD is launching “Sundarbans ATLAS” Bangladesh Forest Compartment Maps and Gazetteer authored by Helmut Denzau, Gertrud Neumann-Denzau and Peter Gerngross on 2 March 2016 at 10 AM Wednesday at Bon Bhaban, Forest Department, Sher-E-Bangla Nagar, Agargaon, Dhaka-1207.
It is an open invitation to the launching ceremony of “Sundarbans ATLAS” Bangladesh Forest Compartment Maps and Gazetteer authored by Helmut Denzau, Gertrud Neumann-Denzau and Peter Gerngross. The Sundarbans mangrove forest in the Gangetic delta, the largest continuous mangrove forest in the world, is famous for its rich biodiversity with valuable populations of flora and fauna, including the Bengal tigers, Masked finfoots, Ganges- and Irrawaddy dolphins, Northern river terrapins and the endangered Sundari trees. However, the fragile tidal ecosystem is nowadays threatened by relative sea-level rise, climate change, reduced freshwater inflow, pollution and other man-made problems.
Prof. Nazrul Islam, Geographer and Chief Editor of National Atlas of Bangladesh and Md. Yunus Ali, Chief Conservation of Forests (CCF), Forest Department will grace the event as the chief guest and special guest respectively. Prof. Sakhawat Ali Khan, Chairman of SEHD will chair the launching ceremony.
While Gertrud Neumann-Denzau, one of the authors will make a keynote presentation on the Atlas, Professor Hermann Kudrass, Sk Ghulam Hussain, and Hasan Mansur will briefly comment on the book.
Please join us at the event at 10:00 AM on 2 March 2016 (Wednesday). The lunching will end with refreshment.
